LIS Senior girls - National High School Soccer Champions 2018

The National High School Soccer Championships were held in Nassau this passed week. The week-long tournament was hosted by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology in conjunction with the Bahamas Football Association.

The Lucaya International Senior Girls prevailed over the Queen’s College Comets as the tournament concluded at the Roscoe Davies Developmental Centre at the Baillou Hills Sporting Complex Saturday night.

It took one extra penalty shot for the Lucaya International to take the girls’ title to Grand Bahama. After falling behind 3-2, Nina Sanchez, Amalie Larsen, Sabrina Brown and Tara Kirkby added the final  penalty shots to go along with Olivia Cafferata’s opening the door just before Tara Kirkby hit her shot right into the goalie. Julia Tychoniewicz gave Lucaya International the initial 1-0 lead until Tyra McKenzie got the equalizer in the 49th minute. Neither team was able to get past their goal defender the rest of the game in regulation, forcing the penalty shots.

Sabrina Brown of Lucaya International School was the girls’ best goalkeeper and the girls’ fair play award was presented also to Lucaya International.
