The House System encompasses the entire school (Pre K through to Year 13). It has an equal academic and sporting bias, with recognition of the individual, but the emphasis being put on the accomplishments of the entire house. Team points are awarded to the students for exhibiting the attitudes and quality of behavior that exemplify the educational and social philosophies of LIS. Sporting team points are awarded to the houses during the sports competitions in Soccer, Basketball, Softball and Track & Field. Academic competitions can include knowledge bowls, science bowls, spelling bees, etc.
The House System aims to encourage student participation in the many varied aspects of school life. It strengthens the school spirit and gives every individual a sense of identity within the school community. The school is divided into three houses; the Blue Marlins, Green Morays and the Red Snappers. Students are placed into the houses taking into consideration age, numbers and family members. Immediate family members are placed into the same house thereby encouraging the involvement of the whole community in the house system.
Each house selects a Captain and Deputy Captain at the beginning of the school year. Additional House Captains are also selected for the Primary School. Their roles are to help coordinate the events, and their particular house teams, and to act as liaison between students and staff. They are also expected to assist in the collection of house points and to report back to their house with information regarding their standing in the various house competitions.
