About Us » Welcome

Welcome to the Lucaya International School website,
LIS was established in 1998, one of only a few international schools in The Bahamas, and the only one situated on the island of Grand Bahama. Lucaya International School is a pre-kindergarten through year 13 co-educational school, where our emphasis is on developing the whole child, intellectually, emotionally and socially.

The school draws from both international and Bahamian families, with more than thirty nationalities comprising the student body and a teaching faculty of over ten nationalities.

Our aim is to develop every student to their full potential, enabling them to become creative, critical and independent thinkers, conscientious citizens of the modern world into which they will go. We strive to ensure that they become confident individuals, with a desire to be life-long learners.

To assist us in achieving this goal, the school has adopted The International Baccalaureate Programme, which offers a high quality programme of international education to a worldwide community of schools. As an IB World School, we are authorized to teach the inquiry based Primary Years Programme (commonly called PYP), designed for students of three years through eleven years of age, as well as The IB Diploma Programme, followed in years twelve and thirteen. Our own Middle Years Programme, years seven through nine, is designed specifically for our LIS students. In years ten and eleven, students are prepared for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) developed by the University of Cambridge.

The school endeavours to keep classes small, with a student/ teacher ratio of 7 – 1, and boasts a well-qualified faculty, programmes in the fine and performing arts, modern languages, athletics and sports, and takes part in a range of community service projects.

Lucaya International School is accredited by The Council of International Schools (CIS), The New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) and affiliated to the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).

Please enjoy our web site and contact us at the school for further information.
