Student Support
Student Learning Support
All students at Lucaya International School are encouraged and supported to achieve their full potential academically, socially, and emotionally, while developing a lifelong love of learning in alignment with the school’s Philosophy, Mission, and Goals.
Students with learning differences are valued members of our learning community. We believe every student has the right to an education that is relevant, supportive, and inclusive. Our small class sizes enable us to provide targeted support through small group and one-to-one instruction across all year levels.
Inclusion Statement
Lucaya International School is committed to equity and respect for all individuals. We strive to create an inclusive culture that supports every student and fosters self-confidence, as well as a strong sense of belonging within the wider school community.
We recognize that diversity enriches our community and enhances opportunities for tolerance, understanding, and mutual respect. Research shows that inclusive education benefits all students—not only those receiving additional support.
Our approach to inclusion includes:
- A focus on how children learn
- Differentiated instruction
- A collaborative team approach
- A supportive and responsive school culture
- Appropriate levels of challenge for all learners
- Flexible learning structures
- Reduced stigma
- Effective use of resources
- High expectations for every student
Admission and continued inclusion of students with learning differences are considered on a case-by-case basis. Decisions are made at the school’s discretion, based on the student’s needs, the classroom environment, and the resources available to support them.
Learning Support Partnership with Parents
Lucaya International School places great value on parental involvement and recognizes the important role parents play in their child’s education. Parents are included at every stage of the learning support process and are informed whenever concerns arise.
If the Head of School, in consultation with the classroom teacher and Student Support Specialist, determines that an external assessment is required, parents must arrange for an evaluation by a licensed educational psychologist at the earliest opportunity. A copy of the report must be shared with the school.
Parents are expected to follow through on all recommendations outlined in the report. Failure to do so may result in the school declining admission or requiring withdrawal. (Refer to LIS Policy 6.3.1.)
Social and Emotional Learning & Support Services
We provide personal and social education classes, as well as individual guidance sessions with the school counsellor for students who may be experiencing challenges.
The Student Support Team (SST) plays a key role in identifying and supporting students, acting as an early intervention system. When concerns arise, an action plan is developed collaboratively with parents, the counsellor, and relevant teachers. Progress is monitored, and appropriate support is provided to both the student and their classroom teacher.
Taino Support Services are delivered by classroom teachers and learning support staff for students requiring accommodations or modifications.
Taino Academy at Lucaya International School (TALIS) is a specialized secondary school pathway designed for students who require curriculum modifications beyond those permitted within the IGCSE and IB Diploma Programmes.
